Vernadsky in the Fine Arts
The first pictorial portrait
of V.I.Vernadsky was painted by E.S.Zarudnaya-Kavos (a cousin of Natalia
Yegorovna, Vernadsky's wife) in summer 1913 in the country-house of the
Vernadskys in the Poltava Province.
Only 21 years later in 1934, during Vernadsky's vocation
in the sanatorium "Uzkoye", the painter I.Grabar has painted the next portrait.
During the World War II some prominent scientists of the USSR
including V.I.Vernadsky, were evacuated to Borovoye (Kazakhstan). Here in
Borovoye the last in Vernadsky's lifetime portrait was made by the painter
E.S.Zernova.
After his death
the large portrait of Vernadsky was painted by A.Yeletsky by
G.Vail photograph.
Some sculptures of Vernadsky were made by Z.M.Villensky. They are
the memorial on the
Novodevichie cemetery, the monuments in the underground
station "Vernadsky's Avenue", in the Ministry of Culture, in the Museum of physical
geography of the Moscow State University, in the State geological museum
named after V.I.Vernadsky.
It had to be mentioned the monument to Vernadsky in Kiev, raised to
the 120-th Anniversary of the prominent scientist.
