    Abstract: The psychological and pedagogical features of language training for the professional activity of technical university students are determined. The goals of teaching foreign languages for oral or written communication are described. The problems of interpreter training and translation quality are studied. The need to form a secondary language persona lity involving the foundations of foreign conceptual system is substantiated. The main aims and purposes of interpreter training in nonlinguistic higher education establishment are formed. The linguis tic competence of the future specialist is considered in the context of the activity and contextual approaches as an important factor for adaptation and preparedness to the modern conditions of competition in the labour market. The conclusions are drawn that mastering the skills of transcoding from the native language and vice versa contributes to successful implementation of professional-mediated communication.

    Abstract: The paper analyzes the impact of reforms in the country's system of highly qualified personnel training and attestation on the organization of postgraduate school and dissertation councils at universities. The article provides the results of the SWOT-analysis on postgraduate training and attestation processes at the regional university. It presents main activities and projects aimed at exploiting opportunities and strengths of the university in order to improve the quality of postgraduate training. Much attention is given to the mechanisms of organizational, methodological and infrastructural support for research and innovation activity of postgraduate students and young scientists. Approaches to the organization of networking between universities for highly qualified personnel traini ng and attestation are suggested. The authors define the role of specific structural divisions at the Department of Science in mana gement training of scientific personnel and establishment of a competitive university sector in the sphere of research work.

    Abstract: This paper discusses teaching Business English as ESP on a university level. The authors identify the most efficient teaching strategies used in teaching Business English and connect them with students’ language learning needs and beliefs about studying Business English as English for specific purposes. This connection gives a teacher the opportunity for improving the quality of learning. It has been revealed that considered teaching strategies need to be communicative, practical and involve using subject-based activities, goal and relevancy-oriented tasks.

    Abstract: This work considers methodological principles of computer science, mathematics and physics in the process of teaching foreign students in Russian as a non-native language at the pre-University level of the International Education Faculty of Tambov State Technical University. The work also focuses on peculiarities of students’ ability to use educational materials and their expertise to hold an inter-University academic competition (Olympiad) in natural-science discipline organized by the "General-Theoretical Disciplines" Department.
