Soviet Art

At present the Soviet art department is the largest in the Art Gallery.
It is in the process of formation during the whole period of the Gallery existance.
In the 1960s the artists, whose creative work was closely connected
with the Tambov region, endowed their works to the Gallery. Alexander Gerasimov's early painting the Peonies at the Mirror is among them.
The well-known master of portraits in water-colours Artur Fonvizin
lived in Tambov in 1918 - 1928. His works are in the fund of the Gallery. There is also a large collection of works by his pupil Nikolai Otnyakin.
The paintings by such eminent artists as R.Falk, A.Osmiorkin, I.Grabar,
E.Moiseyenko, B.Kustodiev, Yu.Pimenov, I.Glazunov, S.Tchuikov and others are represented in the exhibition of the Tambov Art Gallery. A prominent place in the contemporary art belongs to Tambov masters of paintings such as Alexei Krasnov and Yevgeni Ryabinsky.
