Russian Art
From the very first days of it's existance the
department of Russian art
consisted of works by Russian artists from country aristocracy estates.
That is why the most part of paintings were the family portraits,
painted by the famous and the unknown Russian artists of the
18th-19th
centuries, and canvases of the Russian landscape painters of the 19th century,
such as F.Rokotov, V.Borovikovsky, V.Tropinin,
S.Shchedrin, I.Aivazovsky, L.Lagorio,
A.Bogoliubov, M.Klodt, L.Kamenev, F.Vasiliev.
In the 1920s the beautiful canvases by I.Shishkin,
V.Polenov, K.Trutovsky
had been transferred from the State Museum fund in Moscow to the Tambov
Art Museum. These pieces of arts became the first ones in the department
of Russian art.
In the 1960s the museum funds have been stocked with the works
by the Peredvizhniks A.Savrasov, N.Kiseliov,
the academic painters
A.Novoskoltsev, N.Svertchkov, V.Orlovsky and others.
The fund activity of the Art Gallery increased greatly in the
1970s,
when genre canvases of F.Zhuravliov, S.Gribkov,
N.Zagorsky, N.Bogdanov-Belsky and others were bought.
At present the most important goal of the Gallery is to acquire the works
by artists born and worked in the Tambov region such as A.Ryabushkin,
A.Kuprin, S.Krivolutsky, N.Simonovich-Yefimova.
